PR 1.2 - Vereda do Pico Ruivo

This 2.8 km ascent from Achada do Teixeira offers the most direct route to Pico Ruivo, covering the round trip in just 2.5-3 hours. The moderate trail passes notable landmarks including the 'Homem em pé' (Standing Man) rock formation at the start and several mountain shelters built to protect hikers from sudden climate shifts common at these elevations. Hikers often find themselves surrounded by clouds or even standing above them, creating ethereal atmospheric conditions. At Casa de Abrigo do Pico Ruivo, the trail connects to three other major routes (PR1, PR1.3, PR1.1), making it a crucial junction for Madeira's peak-bagging network.
