PR 20 - Vereda do Jardim do Mar

This 1.9 km easy trail connecting Prazeres parish (530m) to Jardim do Mar represents one of the few historic coastal accesses, taking 1.5 hours for leisurely exploration. The 500-meter level difference invites slow hiking to appreciate ocean views while passing through agricultural terraces supported by traditional stone walls. A recently restored water mill marks the route—once grinding cereals from parish and surrounding farmlands—providing cultural insight into Madeira's agricultural heritage. However, note that as of August 2024, this trail is indefinitely closed, so verify current status before planning a visit.
