PR 28 - Levada da Rocha Vermelha

This 10.8 km moderate trail starting at Fanal (ER209) follows PR 13 before branching left to Levada da Rocha Vermelha, ending at Casa dos Guardas de Canal in 4 hours. The route features striking geological drama: a steep staircase flanked by the levada where water's spectacular force results from significant elevation drops, complemented by waterfalls and tunnels creating special charm. One of Madeira's longest tunnels appears mid-route, necessitating a flashlight for visibility when exploring the Rabaçal Valley beyond. The levada originates from Ribeira da Fajã dos Remos, accessible from PR6 Levada das 25 Fontes at higher elevation. From January 1, 2026, trail access costs 4.5 euros for general public.
