About This Trail
One of Madeira's most popular trails, this 4.3 km levada walk takes 3 hours to reach the spectacular 25 Fontes Waterfall—an amphitheatre-like cascade where 25 separate waterfalls pour into a central basin. The easy-to-moderate route from Rabaçal offers superb natural surroundings with tunnels formed by overgrown branches, densely grown forest, and beautiful tropical flowers. The lagoon is created by waters from Paul da Serra that mysteriously emerge through 25 springs at a specific location, a phenomenon classified as a suspended aquifer of exceptional scientific value. From January 1, 2026, the trail requires advance reservations (about 3 euros) through the SIMplifica portal to manage capacity and preserve the hiking experience.
